youth ministry
grades 6-12
Parish Participation Reflection Sheet: participation_reflection_sheet.pdf
All youth in 6-12th grades are invited to participate in our ministry to youth. While some items are age specific, most are all encompassing.
Youth ministry happens in a number of different settings for our family. We have monthly gatherings, daily messages with reflection, large area gatherings with other parish families, get away retreats, conferences and small groups. Permission slips and other information will be available to download from this page. Be sure to check back often.
Using the model of Encounter/Grow/Witness, our youth ministry has 3 goals; to empower our young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, to participate in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community and to foster growth in their spiritual and personal lives.

Large Area Gatherings
We join with the surrounding parishes to provide events which encourage our youth to accompany each other on their journeys. In normal times, we offer 3 events each year.
Fall Gathering- for those in 6-12th grades, hosted at one of the churches who are participating. This event is planned by the area youth ministers and has included bringing in a Catholic musician, a night of service for our veterans, community building in a large group. Every year is different and is generally a kick off event to the year of ministry.
NET- The National Evangelization Team is a group of young adults who travel around the country offering a 4 hour retreat style event. NET offers our youth a great night of community building, spiritual dramas, small groups and personal testimonies. Good food and great friendships round out the event. This is offered to those in 7-12th grades (6th grade if numbers permit). This event usually takes place in LENT.
Summer Event-When it works in the schedule, we try to gather at the St. Marks site out on Harsens Island for a day of canoeing, community building and picnic food.

Retreats
Subiaco High School only (sometimes 8th grade too)
On the highest geographical point of Oakland County sits the perfect place for our youth to spend a weekend working on their relationship with God. While it may not be a mountain, they get to enjoy a mountaintop experience.
During Lent, we spend a weekend at the Subiaco Retreat House in Oxford. Starting Friday evening with ice breakers and meditation, this retreat calls out to the youth to "come". Saturday we hear different speakers, spend time in small groups, eat a lot of food, enjoy free time at the "little grand canyon", at the lake on the property, playing group games and relaxing in the privacy of the retreat grounds and wrap up the day in the experience of Jesus in the sacrament of Reconciliation (which includes fire!). Sunday morning we clean up and end with Mass with the community.

Conferences
Holy Fire- Youth in 6-8th grades are invited to participate in a one day conference event. Holy Fire introduces our youth to dynamic Catholic speakers, uplifting music, the small group experience and all in the environment of hundreds of Catholic Students their age.
Steubenville High School Youth Conference
For over 40 years the Franciscan University of Steubenville Ohio has hosted hundreds of thousands of teens at one of their summer conferences. With 15 locations every summer hosting one of these conferences, our youth are invited to experience the larger church with their own age group. Dynamic Catholic speakers, Catholic youth worshipping together, and a new experience of Jesus unfolds through the hospitality of the young adults hosting this conference. With these conferences being in such high demand we commit to attending in January and begin fundraising with our annual Polish Food sale. We generally attend the last full weekend of June.
